Symptoms of eye disease
We have been granted with a good pair of eyes, sometimes unfortunately due to lack of care and protection, we may prone to eyes disease.
As many eye diseases might have no early symptoms, may be painless, see no change in your vision until the disease has become quite advanced. Therefore it’s quite crucial to do your annual eye examination, just like your annual physical examination. However, if you experience any of the following eye changes, you should immediately see your ophthalmologist or optometrist.
It’s normal to experience eyestrain especially if you read for hours, work at a computer, or drive for a long distance without stopping. You should get them some rest when you have overused your eyes. However if you still experience it after few days, and the discomfortness still there, you should get them checked immediately to make sure it isn’t another problem.
If you ever experience the surface of your eyes covered in blood vessel, giving your eyes the red look, you probably having eye infection. You may get some over-the-counter eye drops and get enough rest (because it may cause from lack of sleep or allergies). However if it still irritates you after few days, see your doctor.
It may be normal for your eyes to feel a little dry especially you are in air cond. room for a longer time. You might feel like something is in your eye or like it’s burning. You may try to use a humidifier in your home, or have some special eye drops that you may get it over-the-counter. Besides, you should consume nutritional supplement with fish oil and omega-3. If you still experience dry eye and it irritates you, again, you should get them checked immediately.
If you experience difficulties to see certain colours, or can’t tell the difference between reds and greens, you may be color blind. It occurs when the colour cells in your eye are absent or don’t work. There is unfortunately no treatment can be done if you’re born with it, however special glasses might be helpful to tell the difference between certain colours.
It’s normal if you experience slight change on your vision as you get older. If it’s not because of the age, you probably need glasses. Some would opt for lasik treatment to correct the vision. Eye disease like cataracts, macular degeneration can too, cause vision problems. Symptoms may be vary, so keep your eyes checked.
Few other signs and symptoms are also need your immediate attention, if you experience:
- Severe, sudden eye pain
- Pain in or around the eye
- Unusual sensitivity (or even painful) to light or glare
- Swollen, red eyes
- Changes in colour of the iris
- Itching, burning or a heavy discharge in the eyes
- Any sudden change in vision
We are surely know prevention is better than cure. Before we lose our previous eyes, get them checked and go for annual eye examination.
